New processing core with an ability to switch between different modules
The processing core of FolderMill has been entirely renewed, taking into account all our gathered experience while working with customers' cases and issues. Now FolderMill Processor comprises a combination of several processing modules and components. This approach allows us to solve most issues encountered by our customers by merely switching to the most appropriate module (e.g., CADlib).
Convert PDF to JPEG, PDF to TIFF more effectively
In terms of file conversion, the new engine is now more effective in scenarios like PDF to JPEG, PDF to TIFF allowing to get crisp and clear images keeping the original quality of input files.
Processing one, all or an exact number of files at once within a Hot Folder
There is a new way to control how many files get processed at once within a Hot Folder. The new FilesProcessedPerCycle option lets you change the number of files picked by FolderMill at once in a Hot Folder. By default, it is set to 1, which means files from all Hot Folders are handled simultaneously. The new option allows processing all files from the current Hot Folder before going to the next one. To enable it, open Hot Folder settings (Ctrl + Alt + R) and set it to FilesProcessedPerCycle=-1.
Ability to print and convert PCL files
FolderMill gets the support for the new supported format – PCL (by request).
PCL stands for Printer Command Language; it is a format describing the layout of text and graphics of document pages. PCL is now used by HP LaserJet printers and some other printing devices. If you need to process PCL files, please contact our specialists so they could provide you with an additional plug-in for this task.
Direct printing of PostScript (PS) files
If your printing device supports PostScript language, FolderMill can directly send it to the printer without any intermediate processing or rendering. PS files may contain vector graphics, raster graphics, and text.
Automatically add image filename on margins
There's a new ability to add image filename (with file extension) to each printed image – on margins. For this feature, you can specify the font, font color, font size, positioning, and the additional page number.
Convert Word to PDF and reduce the file size
Now you can make output PDF files compact when converting DOC or DOCX to PDF. To enable this feature, add a new Convert to PDF Action and press Ctrl + Alt + i. Then find line MinSize and change it to MinSize=1:
Set page orientation and filename template for Convert to Image Action
New settings are available for output JPEG, PNG, and TIF images! You can now change their orientation and filename. To set these options, add a new Convert to Image Action and open advanced settings by pressing Ctrl + Alt + i.
Convert to Image Action line | Effect |
OutFilenameTemplate= "{Title}{-Page}.{Type}" |
Sets output filename. By default, gives the original name of an input file. |
Orientation=-1 | Sets image orientation: -1 – default orientation set by your printer 1 – portrait orientation 2 – landscape orientation |
Disable original subfolder structure in the output folder
By default, the Output folder adopts the structure (subfolders) of the Incoming folder. If you want to keep your converted documents in the Output folder without any subfolders, you can do it by changing the RestoreSubfolders option:
- Add Convert to Image or Convert to PDF action;
- Press Ctrl + Alt + i to open Action advanced settings;
- Change RestoreSubfolders=1 to RestoreSubfolders=0;
- Click OK and Apply Changes and Start FolderMill file processing.
Combine files to a single PDF or TIFF and rename by subfolder name
We added a new macro SrcFilePath which allows you to organize your multi-page documents differently – create multi-page PDF (or TIFF) plus rename output files using subfolder name.
Ability to run FolderMill in desktop mode on a schedule
Previously, it was possible only with the service version of FolderMill to start and stop file processing on schedule. Now, there are three different ways to run FolderMill on schedule, including the desktop version. It allows you to launch and stop FolderMill as a service, in desktop mode or use a simple command to copy files to a Hot Folder at a certain time or regularly.
Ability to add EXIF data to filenames
There's a new option for the Rename document Action available. EXIF data is information related to incoming images, such as image description, camera brand, and model, etc. Now there is a set of new macros allowing to add Description, Make, Model, Software and Date Time to the filenames of converted files.
Other improvements and fixes
We've also made changes to the processing of CAD drawings, Outlook files, generation of logs, and other minor improvements. If you would like to solve a specific task or request a new feature, please contact us!
